Looking after our Yew Trees

Were you aware that St Mary the Virgin has 5 ancient yew trees in its churchyard?  A solid and respectful remnant of a bigone age, but still growing fast and furiously into the 21st century.

This year in collaboration with Love your Yew Week 2026 a group of enthusistic volunteers have been trimming the ground under the yew trees to give these ancient specimens the best support they can have for 2026. This action was recommended by the association “Caring for God’s Acre”.  If you would like to get involved in such churchyard maintenance projects please do get in touch with the church warden.
