Practical tips for churches such as St Mary’s, Micheldever to reach net zero
St Mary's is on a mission to reach the net zero targets set by the Church of England aiming to be net zero by 2030. In April 2024 St Mary's welcomed Esos Energy consultants to complete a survey on our energy usage and areas for improvement. Because of the age of the building it was identified that our energy footprint (in particular the heating) needs to be vastly improved. This is one of the objectives of our new reordering project 2026. Net Zero
Viewing our Veteran Yew Trees
Were you aware that St Mary the Virgin has 5 ancient yew trees in its churchyard? A solid and respectful remnant of a bygone age, but still growing fast, furiously and healthily into the 21st century. Please come and explore the churchyard, as they are magnificent. This year, in collaboration with Love Your Yew Week 2026, a group of enthusiastic volunteers has been trimming the ground beneath the yew trees to give these ancient specimens the best support possible in 2026.
